Event Recap: A Night of Beauty, Bouquets, and Black Joy in Mérida, Yucatán
On Sunday, the community came together to do something sacred: honor the women who have carried, nurtured, and held us together. This Mother’s Day, we didn’t just say thank you—we created a moment for Black mothers in Mérida to feel seen, celebrated, and poured into.

The evening took place inside the elegant Dream Event Center in Itzimná—a venue known for its lush energy and soul-filled gatherings—where something extraordinary unfolded. A group of mothers—many of whom were gifted tickets by generous community members—stepped into an experience crafted just for them. Before the first toast or the first bite, the love was already in the room. From the moment they arrived, the experience was immersive. As each mother entered the candlelit tunnel, they were greeted by beauty, design, and intention. At the end of the tunnel stood a custom backdrop where the first smiles of the evening were captured in a photo shoot—a moment of grace, style, and soft joy.

And that was just the beginning.

Inside, the celebration unfolded with personalized touches that turned the night into something unforgettable. A garden of fresh-cut flowers awaited, where each woman selected blooms to assemble her own custom bouquet. This quiet, intentional ritual created a space for pause—a sensory love letter in petals and stems.

As they entered the main dining area, rows of delicately decorated Mother’s Day cakes—each one unique—lined the room. The air was filled with the sounds of classic soul, R&B, and joy-filled anthems spun by DJ Frequency (DJ Free), whose live set kept the energy flowing from laughter to slow-swaying singalongs.

Dinner was served alongside beautifully crafted drinks, courtesy of SelfCare Sunday, whose craft cocktails and mocktails honored both flavor and intention. The night was filled with fellowship, conversation, and those rare moments of exhale—when mothers are reminded that they are more than caretakers, they are celebrated queens.

For those mothers who arrived with little ones, there was no need to worry. Just steps away, a dedicated children’s area offered a fun and safe environment with activities, refreshments, and loving supervision—so that our mothers could fully receive the moment they deserved.

This wasn’t just a dinner. It was restoration. It was community in action. It was love made tangible.

To every mother who joined us—thank you for your presence. And to those who made it possible by sponsoring tickets or lending a hand—we see you.

This beautiful evening was the result of a collective effort between The Black Mérida Experience, SelfCare Sunday, Dream Event Center, and the many community members who showed up for the women who always show up for us. Together, we created something unforgettable.

This is how we build.
This is how we give back.
And this is only the beginning.
